Europastry, a leading manufacturer of bakery products, approached Ordelmans with a desire to improve their production line. They wanted a more efficient and automated solution for handling and transporting packaged rolls, connecting the supply line to the spiral freezer, and transporting and stacking slices of dough.
Challenge
Europastry faced several challenges related to their production line. They wanted a system that could transport packed sandwiches quickly and at height, minimizing the risk of falling or shifting. In addition, it was important to have the supply line connect seamlessly to the spiral freezer. Finally, slices of dough had to be transported and stacked in a controlled manner, without accumulation or deformation.
Solution
Ordelmans developed several customized solutions to meet the needs of Europastry :
- Elevating conveyor: To elevate packed sandwiches, Ordelmans devised an elevating conveyor with a double conveyor belt. The belts were fitted with rubber strips for extra grip. The first belt raised the product steeply, while the second belt ran parallel and rotated equally fast. However, the second belt was very narrow, so the product got stuck between the two belts, so to speak. This prevented the product from sliding down and ensured stable transport.
- S lane: To connect the supply line directly to the spiral freezer, Ordelmans developed an S lane. This conveyor had a meandering shape that allowed the feed line to connect perfectly to the spiral freezer. The belt in the S conveyor was of the Intralox brand, the market leader in plastic conveyor belts. This ensured smooth and efficient throughput.
- Shot nose: To turn slices of dough 90 degrees and stack them at the same time, Ordelmans designed a shot nose. The shooting nose quickly retracted when the dough reached the end, preventing the dough from piling up but keeping it nice and flat. This ensured controlled transport and stacking of the dough.
Thanks to Ordelmans 's customized solutions, Europastry has achieved several benefits:
